Have you clicked a link (e-mail or IM) and infected your computer?
Yes! As soon as I clicked the link in an e-mail or an IM I had all sorts of problems. [ 6 ] ** [11.11%]
No. I never had a problem. I routinely click links in e-mails and IMs without checking with the sender. [ 3 ] ** [5.56%]
No, although I hardly ever click a link in an e-mail or an IM unless I am 100% sure about the link by checking with the sender. [ 45 ] ** [83.33%]

We all know stories that sound like Donna's post "SecurityFlash reader would like to warn, the community".

Some people don't realize how dangerous links in e-mails and IMs can be.

This poll is asking the obvious, but maybe it will illustrate the point concerning how dangerous a link can be.

If you made a mistake and clicked a link and had problems, please tell us about it!

I have gotten in trouble one clicking on a attachment years ago from a friend I was emailing with on PC trouble. NAV stopped it right away. I forget what it was but it was one of those that would sent out another email right after you email that person. It may of been snow white. Anyhow it help me to help the person I was help because I found out one of her troubles from that. So now I never just click any thing. I should of known better then too because the email was blank.

I will only click on a link in an e-mail if I'm positive as to what is is. I haven't used an IM in at least 2 years. The only one I have on this computer is MSN messenger for family emergencies but other than updating it when they have a security update, I can't even remember the last time I signed on to it.

I don't think there is a link other than just sending it like this:

http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php

Or: Join Us which is in Site Map.

Thanks Haroldo. I see the email option at every thread page.
Was looking on the main page before.

Yes Hardhead the Registration page too so you can send out a link so others could sign out.

But is there a page like this...
http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?a...rd&f=137&t=4817
That you can send out that also takes you to the Registration Form?

Hay there hello.gif
I try not to click on any link in a e-mail , I try to remember
to "copy and paste" instead as I think I heard thats safer
as for non-mail links elsewhere, well what can I say but "yep"(like here)
but I don't surf with Java or Javascript on , or with "accept cookies"

the new similies are cool.

I never click on links from senders who I don't recognize. However, I do copy and paste them to see where they go (without actually going there).

Knowing the sender wont protect you completely.
  • Spoofing is quite common. A link can arrive that appears to be coming from a friend of yours, but it could be sent from someone else!
  • Your friend's machine could be infected and send toxic links without their knowledge!
When a friend sends a link, before clicking it, I reply

Thanks for the advice, Haroldo.

If it seemed like the person I knew didn't send it, or if they linked to an unscrupulous source, I wouldn't go there. The people who do these things could just set up an account with a web hosting service and redirect it to the site they want you to go to. I'll keep what you said in mind.

I click on links after I filter the e-mail out with Mail Washer. thumbup.gif
If I don't know the return address, (Not the one displayed, but the one picked apart by Mail Washer), it's good bye and reported to Spam Cop for that bad boy.....
Caught only once in six years......Hopefully never again... smile.gif

I don't click links in emails unless I know who it's from. I don't use IM programs so there's no worry there.

I am very careful what emails I open, let alone any links or attachments.
I do not use any IMs.
My ISP filters my mail with "Postini" and anything that is suspicious, gets quarantined in their box and I can check it there. I also have the Preview Pane in OE6 disabled, so nothing opens unless I do it myself. I have other email accounts, and just as careful with them.
In answer to the Survey, NO I have never been infected, (knock knock) but that's not to say it won't happen.
